Saab as a way of life. After a few similar posts Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Fri, 23 Sep 2011 22:11:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
that I came through tonight, it looks like many of us around here see Saabs as a way of life. Not that I didn't really know that, but I read one too many posts that just resonated with that idea. Wow, I'm really not the only one. I came across this post on the NG900 board by nwas (excerpt):
"...I've recently started using an old line about British cars when people ask about the Saab. Saabs are a way of life, not just a car. You have to get into the on-line groups, read about what goes wrong and when, and work proactively. Otherwise they are a PITA as long as you own them. "
Saabs ARE a way of life. I recall the days (I am in my mid twenties) when I first began to drive my parents' car (was not a Saab. Mazda). I didn't give a damn about anything! I didn't take notice of anything. A car was a car, and that was all. It drove and worked and that's all I cared about. I didn't take notice of the rims, the brakes, nothing at all. I had no idea how the clutch worked or how to even check the oil nor did I give a crap. Since starting to drive Saabs, I'm pretty certain I think about Saab a few times a day, everyday. I'm online reading the forums, on ebay looking for spare parts, accessories, and all things related. In a way, I kind of miss those days when I was a little more naive, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
It's weird, when you think about it, isn't it? For the majority of people the cars themselves have very little place in their lives. They just about never think of them whereas for me, Saab is a way of life, I breathe it, think about it all of the time, probably more than I drive them!
EVERY time I look at my red Viggen I get amazed at how beautiful a car it really is. I never ever ever get tired of it.
Cars aren't just machines...they are machines that people fall in love with. Saabs, now they're a whole different creature.
Hoping for the best.
