that's exactly why I have no interest in a Prius...
if it ever sees the light of day, a hybrid 9-3 sounds very interesting... a real car that happens to have electric drive... not just an eco-mobile...
I wonder what ever happened to the PML flightlink automotive motor development program (for stuff like Volvo Recharge)? That was pretty cool + addressed some of the major EV issues... batteries are still an issue, but it is a hot development area with lots of funding these days so they will progress... but the 600hp mini with about 2000 lb ft of torque from 0 rpm (limited to much less), that got ridiculous fuel economy sounds pretty darn cool... (and they note, the mini was a poor choice of car to convert: small space, heavy, etc - but "British" marketing connotations which of course suits a British company)...
then again... I prefer to fix electronics vs oily rusting seized mechanical stuff... mechanics prefer the latter... so it all depends what one prefers + is trained in... there may be a big learning curve for techs going forward (or we'll all just pay through the nose for module swapping)!
