Is taking it to another nearby dealer an option? If the other dealer questions why you are taking it to them, just tell the new dealer that you aren't happy with the other dealers service writer. I did this years ago on my 01 9-3 as I was not happy with the service department at the dealer I purchased the vehicle from.
Not sure what state you are in, but you may want to contact your state's consumer affairs department and make them aware. There are state and federal laws in place to protect consumers that make (in this case) the dealers perform the warranty work under the terms and conditions of the warranty at time of purchase, or provide an alternative repair facility via the company that wrote the original warranty (Saab North America?).
To me, at least for what is being described as a small repair, I don't understand why the dealer wouldn't just fix the problem to keep their customer (you) happy. Makes no sense to me. If it were a major repair of several thousand dollars I could at least empathize with their concerns of not being paid. Are they a Saab only dealer? If yes, their position makes more sense as they have nothing to fall back on by selling other brands of cars.
The purchase of an aftermarket warranty while your new car warranty is still in place doesn't make any sense. I highly doubt an aftermarket warranty company would pay a claim while the factory warranty period is still valid. Also with aftermarket warranties the deductables are usually high, so for this repair it might come all out of pocket anyway.
Please keep us posted, this sounds like a class action lawsuit in the making.
