The scamsters can't even figure out the difference between "cleft palate" vs. "cleft lips," as their propaganda photos keep showing the latter instead of the former.
Any case, operations for both are considered cosmetic surgery. The supply of cosmetic surgeons who can repair cleft palate and cleft lips are limited, and they are already quite full in their schedules; any new supply would take away from medical graduates who would specialize in real diseases. Any money thrown at a limited supply is only going to bid up price. Your donation, to the extent that it is not wasted on churning out more propaganda (the churning typically uses up 80+% of donations on those "topic of the day" causes that require a lot of marketing), that new demand would only deprive some middle class kids of the operation whose parents could previously barely afford it on their own!
A far more cost-effective solution is to teach the kids that they shouldn't be ashamed of what is essentially a cosmetic birth mark/defect, just like girls with small boobs and boys who are short or have small you-know-what, all of which cause the same self-confidence problem. The propagandizing of cleft as some kind of disease only make it worse for the sufferer.
If you really care about helping those with cleft, go volunteer at a cosmetic surgeon's office who does that kind of operation. I have no idea why that is a more worthy cause than volunteering at a doctor's office that specializes in breast and p* enlargement. Heck, if you are really fond of the scams, go volunteer at an office that diagnose 10% of the relevant population as having the cancer and have the thing removed and replaced by prosthetics, then publish a 90% "success rate" (i.e. 10% of diagonosed die despite the intervention; i.e. 1% of the entire relevant population die of the cancer after intervention). . . when previous natural death rate due to that kind of cancer in the relevant population had been 1% to begin with before any intervention!
