I posted about this a couple weeks ago. After I bought one.
I found it very awkward to use. Typing on the same plane you're trying to look at is annoying as heck. There's no comfortable way to sit on the couch or in bed and browse and the internet. I got a 32gb Wi-Fi model; no 3G. So as soon as you go out of WiFi it's very much useless.
It's a cool novelty electronic toy. I found a few practical uses for it, but it isn't worth $600 to me at this point in life. My iPhone does all the same stuff. I returned mine and put it toward a new Dell XPS 14z laptop. I'm pretty happy with that decision.
I'd recommend a laptop or netbook instead. But you can always try it out for yourself! Go play with one at an Apple store or Best Buy. You can even buy one and return it within 14 days if it's not your thing.
