The value of a warranty. The real value of a vehicle warranty is only if parts are available. Yes manufactures such as Delphi, INA, AC Delco, Valeo, Hutchinson etc all make consumable parts such as belts, pulleys, mounts, brakes, etc.
My large concern for the '03+ 9-3 and NG9-5 are the propitiatory electronic control modules such as CIMs, ISMs, transponders, etc that are very specific electronic parts with programming to suit each vehicle. Items like that I will be very impressed if an aftermarket supplier steps up to sell. Not say they wont as if there is a demand, there will usually be a supply created to fill it. Even stuff down to the GM MDI interface which the NG9-5 uses for all diagnostic and programming is going to be difficult to find a shop to have work done if dealers close. As a small indy shop I'm not willing to spend the $$$$ for an MDI setup to work on two years of NG9-5 and one limited run of 9-4X. Those will be the most difficult to service and repair later on for sure. The 2011/12 9-3 still uses the old Tech 2 CanDi interface so diag should be reasonable on that product line.
If your able to get a new Saab vehicle for $15-20k, saving $20k...Id think thats worth the gamble of no warranty. Case being if you bought a $20k car and they offered a 5 year 50k bumper to bumper warranty for $15-20k would you buy it? How about just buy two cars and when one breaks drive the other haha.
Good deals can be found now, amazing deals really. One could do well if Saab pulls back around as another company in a few years. I would buy a vehicle now with the thought that there is no warranty available today, there most likely wont be tomorrow.
