Interesting article on SU regarding future spare parts Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 22 Dec 2011 08:33:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Key points:
All tooling to produce parts is owned by a separate company, Saab Parts AB.
Saab Parts is owned by Saab Automobile and will either be sold to the buyer of Saab, or retained by the Swedish Debt Office as it was collateralized for the EIB Loan.
Parts for the NG 9-5 should never become a problem other than delivery times as replacement parts are always produced in small runs.
All spare parts tooling for the OG 9-5 was sold to BAIC. Saab Parts did an "All Time Run" of spares prior to the sale.
Editorial Comment: I know from professional experience that an All Time Run of automotive spare parts is often insufficient. Therefore, the buyers of the NG 9-5s "may" be in better shape regarding future parts availability than us owners of the OG 9-5. Hopefully BAIC will recognize the need for spares and produce them if/when the initial stockpile is depleted.
