I too think Saab is/was the anti-BMW, MB, etc. That's why I had chosen the brand initially. Saabs being a little different or "quirky" was a positive.
As far as Honda Accords, the perception (if not reality) has long been that they are more reliable, have better resales, and are cheaper to buy/maintain. From at least a size standpoint, today's Accords actually compare a lot closer to even today's larger 9-5 than the 9-3. The 2009 9-5 is smaller than a 2009 Accord.
I know there are exceptions but I think most people who buy Accords aren't really "car people" and simply want practical transportation.
