Easier to have your SAAB declared "totaled"?

I have seen some messages here about owners worrying that their insurance company will find it easier to declare their SAAB totaled in the even of an accident. I can only speak to my own current experience, having rear-ended an Audi on Dec. 28 (yes, I was technically at fault). My insurance company, USAA, along with the collision center I chose, put the damage at $2893 to our 1999 9-5. USAA estimated the worth of the car at $4950. The car is being repaired this week here in San Diego, and I am responsible (of course) for the deductible. Of course, some insurance companies may feel differently. The last accident claim I filed with USAA was in 1995, also a fender-bender.
