(assuming automatic) have done R&R on '00 9-3 which is about the same...major pain -- will need very small torx to remove the shift knob and also soldering iron to reconnnect the sport button switch.
if you don't have a working key to operate lock cylinder so the shift lever can be moved up and down not sure it can be done -- check 9-5 or 9-3 archives for more detail...
