turrbo,
Actually, it's more about particular route rather then russian roads and traffic (which, well, are both quite phenomenal, but it is a tad another story). And secondly, it's also the reason or the goal of the trip which should be considered before advising to give it a try or to use a train.
If being put to extremes then it's like 'I'm thinking of doing base-jumping off ESB, NYC. Am I a complete idiot and should better use elevator or it's worth giving it a try?' - if the main objective is simply get down to earth from #102 floor then elevator should be #1 option. But if #1 is to titillate yourself while travelling down the earth then base-jumping is worth to be considered.
I believe EGD will get back to this thread with his thoughts after we break it down off TSN (there indeed are plenty to questions to ask and to answer before summing it up).
Cheers,
Zig
P.S.
EGD,
The second paragraph is really put to extremes, car trip from Msk to Spb isn't that bad! :)
FWIW, I'm still waiting for a ping from you in the email account mentioned earlier. C'mon!
