No I think that is good rule because it is a last confirmation that they actually received your e-mail which sounds like it would be important that they did receive it if you sign off on something.
I try to do scheduling as much as possible over e-mail and sometimes I might not send that last confirmation because I thought it was pretty much ironed out in the previous e-mail which day and time they were planning to drop off the car.
So the customer send me a quick reminder next day or so to verify that I did get their last e-mail and I realized that yes, I could have sent a response to make it more clear.
Sure, this could go on forever with sending confirmation notes after each Thanks mail but at least when you send something that needs to be received by the other, a quick Thanks lets you know they did get it.
And if push comes to shove, you have that e-mail to confirm that you did your job.
