OT: Mapping a circuit breaker box

Our old cheap counter top microwave died and it ain’t worth fixing. My wife wants to use this opportunity to replace the basic vent hood with an over the range microwave-hood combo. I understand these really should be on their own circuit. So I go down to the breaker box in the basement to see if it is… and find that the electrician who wired my house (spec house that we are 2nd owners) wrote out the breaker map in pencil and 85-95% of them are unreadable, or hugely vague.
Does anyone know of a tool or technique for mapping the breaker box, besides turning off breakers one at a time and running around the house to see what goes out? I need the exercise but not the aggravation.
