It could easily be for some people, so fair enough (and I get what you're saying - avoids the need for anti-spam stuff, to some degree, though my email got spammed briefly through SU, which imho is more cumbersome than saabnet)... but... I think some like the degree of anonymity offered by no login. To some extent it's a tough line to walk: not putting too much personal data on the internet vs. the level of camaraderie offered by this site. Others simply might not need all the features etc.

I'm going to get a membership within the next couple days... I just need to choose a better login name! Scott could better explain the economics, but Noel pointed out that ads may not support the site as well as membership does + fair enough. Many sites fully supported by adds are littered with them in highly invasive ways. Scott has maintained a nice simple implementation wrt the ads which is nice. Most of the ads are useful also! I had justified not bothering with the membership on the basis of ad revenue + trying to add value by contributing to repair threads whenever I could. This is a fantastic site that's worth supporting. Not saying that to diss anyone who doesn't want a membership, but for me it's now the way to go!

I suppose, even as a member, in principle, I could log out and post anonymously as "RealerthanReality" if I cared (which I don't)... well, maybe once in a while just to play with the picatcha... hey, I got 4 books this time!
