One of the reasons I bought my 07 GTI is that VW finally got rid of the solid rear axle with the Mark 5 (MKV) model in 2006. The, lo and behold, to hit that new, low price point with the Jetta, they not only went back to the solid rear axle, but went to drum brakes as well. They also went back to the 2.0 (two point slow) N/A engine.
The entry level Jettas aren't selling, by the way. Everyone opts for the S or the SE with the 2.5 N/A engine. Or the GLI with the 2.0 turbo.
