I actually work for the company that made the cells used in this prototype battery module. The actual battery, the conditions it was placed under, and the intentional removal safety over rides, are about a far removed from what would ever be placed in a vehicle as one can imagine. This was for all intents and purposes a destructive test where it appears the lab did not adaquatly protect their workers from what was an almost inevitable failure. That said, it's very unfortunate that people were injured, but I find it hard to place all the blame on the battery.
