My father had a very similar thing happen on his '02 9-3. Wobbly pulley followed by nonfunctional AC. Towed it to my place, and replaced the clutch/pulley and it seemed okay for a little while - maybe a month or two. Then got the wobble/no AC again and felt pretty positive it was the compressor itself. We were told by a couple people that compressors don't usually fail in that fashion, but his certainly did! In the short term, we just used the short serpentine belt to bypass the compressor, and shopped around for a new one. A month or so later we replaced the compressor and all has been well since - over a year.
