Holy Smokes! Remember when air was free? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 12 Oct 2012 15:00:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I left work this morning to head to a meeting four miles away. The sky was overcast, the temperature was 40 degrees, and the wind was howling. I had no more than pulled out of my parking spot when the Low Air Pressure alarm went off for both of the windward side tires. A quick visual check assured me they were probably at 32psi which I have previusly determined is the alarm point so I continued.
At the first intersection I spotted a coin operated air dispenser at a gas station. I pulled in and was shocked ot discover the cost has jumped from 25 cents to 75 cents! I had four US quarters in my pocket so I splurged.
I removed all the valve stem caps and extended the hose before sliding three quarters into the slot, then gave a quick prayer that the thing would run. Hmmmmmmmmm. The previous user had looped a knot in the hose that I didn't see until I discovered the hose would not reach the fourth tire. I untangled the hose, placed the air chuck on the fourth valve stem and silence. Sh**! Seventy-five cents only filled three tires.
I checked all five tires on both cars when I got home tonight and discovered the spare in my car only had less than 20psi. It probably hadn't been checked since the car left the factory nearly 5 years ago. I don't remember checking it in the Spring after purchase.
Moral of the story is to check your spare tire pressures.
I am also not looking forward to what will undoubtedly be a winter long battle with the TPMS sensors on my new used snow tires.
