adam,
All of those parts exhibit particular symptoms when they wear to a certain point and they rarely, if ever, just fail without warning. They usually present symptoms for a long time and there are procedures for checking each that will determine if there is excessive wear developing. Saab quality suspension parts can last a really long time under the right conditions and light to normal use. They can also be wrecked by bad conditions or severe use. History of the car is a consideration but inspection and symptoms are the key. So unless money is no object and you just like the feeling that all that stuff is new most mechanics would advise that you concentrate your efforts on items that might be exhibiting wear. As for your shocks, if they work (bounce once and stop) and don't leak, then they're OK.
