I did Logitech motion detection cameras with a mix of infrared and non infrared. There's a total of 6 cameras around my property,it's the max one can run on the system. They record on a 2gig micro ad card installed in each camera if the p.c. The system is hooked to is turned off other wise they will record directly to the hard drive. Over the years I accumulate a few laptops and one of them is now my dedicated camera system. It's absolutely awesom to be sitting in the office an see ever corner of the houses
I'm out in a rual area and a few years back this house was broken into before I had the cameras up, after the break in they went up immediately.
I hear if the p.c. Is left on with Internet access the owner can go to a web site and pull up their cameras where ever they are in the world. The cameras or a single camera can also be programmed to text a phone when it sees motion. Which also needs Internet access to do it. I had installed a non infrared camera inside the house looking directly at the front door, this was going to be the camera to text my phone. But I ran into problems getting the system online.
This system is a full do it yourself if your not into installing, climbing around in the addic, running wires, and so forth might not want to get Logitech, and on top of that there fairly expensive for the cameras, but when everything is up and running its awesome!! The cost pr month is 0$
