You likely just lost a seal in the hydraulic ram. The same thing can happen to a normal floor jack. It might be rebuildable (I'm guessing the kind of ram they use on a lift is designed to me more serviceable than on a floor jack) or you need a new ram, but it's certainly fixable and likely not at a major cost. Try to find the make or model of the lift and/or ram and see what you can find online.
