Some of us need it, even at $8/gallon.
My faithful old '68 Corvette 427 used to be happy on 93 octane pump gas. But actual octane has been dropping and "real" 93 is hard to come by. Old low tech engines like the 427 can't self adapt to what's in the tank, so much above 10:1 compression gets risky.
The vette had started to "ping" on today's "premium" pump gas. Even after tweaking the timing, I need to run 3 gallons of 110 octane race gas per tank to avoid detonation.
Fortunately, there's a station 3 miles from home with a Turbo Blue pump!
