I was only correct on item #1 Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 3 Aug 2013 19:05:41 In Reply to: Question for MI-Roger re: SC tailgate struts, CombiBob, Sat, 3 Aug 2013 12:04:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My suggestion was declined by GM with inadequate reasoning. The typical arrogant response that only automotive engineers are qualified to suggest engineering improvements to vehicles.
To the best of my knowledge GM/Saab never developed a service kit for installation of these replacement struts which does not require full headliner removal on the 9-3SC. After 7 years of ownership the struts on our 9-3SC are weaker than new but still very usable.
On a side note I once worked with a die-hard Cadillac owner who's wife was much shorter than him. He spent an entire day on the phone once talking to different people at Cadillac suggesting they create a memory seat option for their cars. This was in the late '70s. Everyone person he talked to said it was a great idea but they were not authorized to implement any research into adding such a feature. Each person also gave him the name and phone number of the next higher dog up the corporate ladder.
He finally talked to someone at the top of the heap who replied something similar to "We had that once, it was a huge electrical control box that consumed the entire under-seat area." To which my co-worker replied, "Yes, but those model years also had the Wonder Bar Radio which consumed half the dashboard. Look how small radios are today."
Cadillac had memory seats the very next model year
