all of which are relevant to macintosh also, at least if you are a power user or ever want to upgrade without simply replacing the whole box (which is all my mac friends usually do - kind of like dumping an old saab for a new one after 2-3 years vs repairing it - Apple is very good at selling "shiny and new" stuff):
SSD = Solid State Drive
HDD = Hard Disk Drive
SATA = Serial ATA (as opposed to older now obsolete parallel ATA or IDE), its the interface to connect the SSD or HDD inside the computer.
RAID = Redundant array of independent discs
PCI = a card slot/bus type (now superseded)
WinXP = older windows OS version. Think OS X Tiger vintage.
I've never had a SATA controller die. Maybe I've been lucky or Dean was unlucky! fwiw, well built PCs are equally reliable as Macs... it's the cheapo ones (often name brands!) that give PC's a bad name... and that more PC users are willing to get their "hands dirty" than mac users, so it's kind of like Honda drivers ragging me for my Saabs that "always break down" because I change the oil or replace an exhaust myself vs taking it to the dealer...
TLA's sure reduce the typing!
