No argument here folks or desire to start OS wars, I run Linux, Mac OS, Windows from 95 through 8 and support it all. I have clients who aren't on line or using email. I don't push tech on people who don't want or need it.
I don't turn off updates for every client either, but for those running dinosaur programs on this brittle Windows stuff, I do whatever it takes so the client does NOT need me to fix it every week, IF updates repeatedly foul up the works.
Funny Pete, reminding me of Novell days, and not making money on it but making it supporting Microsoft (and Macs too), I hear ya. ;)
I do feel badly it's too much for most clients to manage themselves or have any idea what updates to install IF they try DIY... and then yes, those updates MS jams in even when updating is turned off? Ugh.
But it's job security for me until some other flawed OS dominates.
No easy answers indeed on updating or not for the average Joe or Jane.
