The Ploesti Raid! Wow! Lucky he survived, etc. Few even know of it anymore but what an ordeal it was. People should read about it.

We appear to be of an age in which our older fathers served in WWII and are slowly dying off. My dad was in the Navy Sea Bees from 1944 until after the war. He quit HS at 17 and joined up like many others. He was just here in Southern California and I took him around all the local Sea Bee bases he was at in 1944. Anyway, he landed on Okinawa in April 1945 and was there through the fighting trying to get air bases up and running as a heavy equipment operator.

My friend's fathers were B-29 navigators over Japan, combat engineers in Europe, even an Imperial Japanese Marine! [Hey, wrong team!], and two uncles were on occupation duty in Japan, another friend's father was a P-38 pilot in the Pacific, etc. Lots and lots of history, etc.

Anyway, if you have the chance to note your father's story, write it down. Our fathers will not be around much longer.
