Had the gear box rebuilt by a local indie when he was finished with it shifting the box into 1st,3rd and 5th with a screw driver one can hear something inside the gear box slam into the back plate. A metal slamming into metal sound. I ran this problem by C-Myles and he said sounds like something got messed up in the rebuild, but he couldn't say exactly what.
When picking up the gear box from the indie he had the rear pinion bearing that was pulled from the box sitting on the bench, its outer ring was split in two. Guess it put up a heck of a fight trying to get it out and likely damaged the gear box housing in the extraction and now it allows the new rear bearing to slide forward just a tad when shifting to 2nd & 4th & slams back in place shifting to 1,3&5th.
This is only a theory of what's happing, & on top of that, I filled it with oil to preserve the new synchro's from rusting and with-in a month all the oil was on the garage floor. Which had leaked out a missing bolt hole (the turbo mount bracket is off along with it bolts) perhaps when replaced it will stop leaking. But with all of this I thought f**k it who would drop this box in their car. The indie knew I run 20psi of boost in the spg and when I brought up these issues the gear box has to him, he said ' the rebuild went text book.
I can't bring myself to drop it in the c-900 just to find out what I already know. So threw a tarp over it & rolled it out back. The cost of fixing it would be a new/used gear box which I haven't come across yet. Looking for the 89-93 with the larger pinion C-Myles didn't have one laying around so the hunt is still on, just putting forth very little effort.
