It's a great movie and in a post above I mention the passing of Harold Ramis - who was involved in some classic films like animal house caddy shack and stripes. Stripes had a great opening scene where Bill Murray's GF just left him and Ramis stops by and I think they get high and are watching TV when an army recruiting commercial comes on - and Ramis gets fixated on it and says to Murray - this looks pretty cool maybe we should try this out.
I may have told this on here but that scene and discussion of smoking pot reminds me getting high with a friend and the news is on the TV and a story comes on about thieves stealing bronze bearings from RR cars - this was in the 70s when inflation drove up metal prices. Well my friend and I look at each other as he had a job as a night watchman at the local electric utility site where copper wire and fixtures for high voltage lines is stored. So that night he opens the gate and I pull into site with my beater 64 chevy biscayne, pull up to the dock and we begin to load copper plates and wires into the trunk - it's heavy and see the rear end sagging but he convinces me to fill the trunk. We then smoke a joint before I take off but there is a drop on the driveway and as I go over it I hear a bam and I have snapped a rear spring. Undeterred I drive down this main thorough fare with the rear of the car dragging and every time I go over a bump I see sparks in the side view mirror, then I see a cop car in the mirror, it's 2 am and the street is basically deserted so I think I'm screwed as I watch the cop car coming up along side me - then I see the cops laughing and pointing at my car and they drive right on by me laughing hysterically at my beaten up car with the rear end dragging the road.
