I'm in the process of buying a condo and thought about the idea getting what used to be called "credit life" insurance (maybe still is) where if either of us die it'll pay off the mortgage. I talked to our lender and they don't offer it any longer. It's been 10 years since the last time I bought a house so I've been out of the loop I suppose. Is this still common and more importantly is it even a good idea? At one time I recall it being a bargain--but I was much younger last time I had it. Can you get insurance for the same amount cheaper elsewhere? Since we're both in our 60's I imagine there's no free lunch and the premiums will reflect it. We have some life insurance through work but have been looking for a way of beefing it up.
