I'll agree with the others. If you have maintained your '99 9-3 well, it is a very reliable car. I have a 2000 9-3 hatchback with 223,000 miles. Yes, I have had to replace a number of things in the last 2 years as they eventually wore out, but I have not had trouble getting parts, and getting it repaired when needed was much less expensive than buying a new car....and I still love driving this Saab! The only time it ever left me stranded was when the fuel pump went out and that happened to be in town so I could have it towed to my indy Saab repair shop (about 20 miles away).
I frequently take my Saab on a four hour trip in state to visit my parents and I don't think about it twice. At some point, it may be come unreliable, but the engines in that era of 9-3 can go a long time if well maintained.
