Apparently Bosch bought Vetronix, the original manufacturer of the Tech 2, as they answer the phone using the combined name.
The Bosch/Vetronix website states to call them for pricing of the three Tech 2 packages shown on their site.
The phone number on their "Contact Us" page has the wrong options. You go to Technical Service not Sales.
Sales cannot give you a price unless you are already a registered customer.
Sales will initially tell you they can give you a "List Price only" if you provide the Part Number for the item you are seeking.
The Part Number shown on their website is incorrect. However, with this erroneous number they can quickly find the correct P/N.
With the correct P/N you learn they can only connect you to the authorized distributor for your area, no List Price provided. Areas are multi-state in size.
After calling the distributor you learn the person for your specific State is not available (at least that was my final frustration today).
Bottom line is that Bosch only provides new units at full retail price, unless a retailer is discounting them. The Tech 2 is not obsolete as the new PC based GM diagnostic tool is only for vehicles 2010 and newer which have received a full redesign, currently around twenty name plates. Almost all new GM trucks still require the Tech 2, and existing cars & trucks will require a Tech 2 for many years to come.
It appears the best deal is to routinely scan various classified boards looking for a legit device from a retiring GM tech. Or buy a Chinese clone and hope for the best. I'll keep looking for factory reconditioned units as they must exist somewhere.
