think they know If you are a buyer or not and act like they don't want to be bothered.
Recently I was looking for a Saab, saw one that was exactly the 'right color' with okay mileage. Had several e-mails and conversations with him, always seemingly dragging the answers from him and wanted to have it checked out by my mechanic.
This dealer said "you can't take the car that far" (my mechanic was 20-25 miles away), then when I found a mechanic within 7 miles from him - he still didn't want to let me do that. Told him "if I can't take the car, just have someone that works for you take it there." He still said no - said the mechanic should come to his store.
Fortunately he didn't allow me, a week later I spotted another car, a thousand miles away - but newer and with extremely low mileage. Communicated with the dealer, who took the car to a Saab mechanic for me, had it inspected and purchased it.
So sometimes good things come out of bad.
By the way, the original dealer still has the car for sale
