On a recent visit to the uk i managed to get some air time in a glider. Great to be back in the air after at least ten years! Took a trial lesson and mentioned my single engine flight experience, so after the initial take off and some aerobatics the instructor gave me the stick and i brought it in to finals then landed it! The instructor was happy enough that i got to fly the next take off, the circuit and the landing. It was a ground cable launch which is basically a mile long winch which pulls you into the air at 45 degrees and a launch speed of 0-60 in four seconds, incredible fun. The third launch was for some aerobatics, i flew some loops and he flew lots of chantels( if thats the right word).
So the question for all the boys and girls on the board is, any recomendations for a gliding school near NYC, or a gliding school where its possible to go for a weeks intensive flying anywhere in the USA.
