I actually think the weak point for the Germans has been defending against fast breaks. The Algerians and Ghana both played strong defensively (mostly just parked the bus) but each had 1 or 2 guys up front who were too fast for the German defenders (who had pushed forward), causing them no end of grief. The goals are always harder to come by when opponents park the bus (because of loss of space). This seems to be the best strategy to deal with the tic-tac attack of Barca or Bayern... Overall though, this is the same German team that was so dominant and high scoring in the last World Cup. The players are still young, so if they find their form (as they seemed to vs Portugal), this should be a great match.

I am really hoping Neymar will shine a bit more in the next (and hopefully further) match(es). He was brilliant in the Confederations Cup but has been blanketed by the opposition so far. Would be nice to see Fred actually hit his shots on goal again. That pairing was unstoppable, and when they are on, the Brazilians are really fun to watch.

At least USA made it into the tournament (and made a good showing). Us Canucks haven't had a team there since Mexico (1986), though the women do reasonably well. Soccer is popular here - probably more so than in the US, but with ice and snow 6 months of the year, it kind of reduces the hours for talent to develop... that said, we manage to play hockey 12 months of the year, and that should be harder!
