One of the funny results out of all of this has been the almost mythical status the Phoenix platform has achieved. In my humble opinion, it's very unlikely that this is earth-shattering stuff. The factory and staff are all great, but hardly irreplaceable.

At this point the value would be in the SAAB name and the authenticity of producing cars in Trollhättan, Sweden.

I can see SAAB AB getting on board one last time if there is a serious business plan, along with accounts flush with cash; a plan to really rebuild the SAAB brand with a solid base in Sweden.

These Chinese and now Indian companies leave a lot to be desired, and I'm very skeptical at this point anything positive will happen. I still wish a company like BMW AG had rushed in with excitement to do with SAAB what they did with MINI. It would have been a great brand for them to build a full-range of FWD cars (where they are now size constrained by MINI and really shouldn't build FWD BMWs).

Alas...
