Kitchen faucet set is ~25 years old. All faucet sets in the house were replaced with matching styles at that time so I don't want to change it. The spray nozzle hose started leaking yesterday so today I bought a new hose to replace it.
Imagine my surprise when I saw that all new hoses use a 1/4-inch female pipe thread and my old Delta brand hose used a 1/8-inch male thread! When did this happen? Obviously long enough ago that adapters are not included with the hoses or sold on the next hook over in the hardware stores.
My third stop for parts was an ACE Hardware which is the closest local thing to the old fashioned hardware stores. The Clerk pointed out that I could use a 1/8-inch brass close nipple and a 1/4 x 1/8 brass reducing bushing to make my own adapter. With access so inconvenient beneath the sink I opted for a 3-inch long 1/8 brass nipple to make life easier.
Leaks everywhere!
After two hours of fighting with this, and getting less/smaller leaks each time, I finally used Teflon dope rather than tape and am letting the faucets sit overnight before using them again. This trick has worked multiple times for me when connecting plastic threaded fittings for our pool. I sure hope it works on the threaded brass fittings under the kitchen sink.
