The article mentions the possible need for a pro driving school for people buying the new ultra-powerful cars. Sure makes sense. Sort of like the old Saab Aero Academy and the schools available to Porsche, Jaguar and BMW owners.
I've only done the local club schools, but even those can make a huge difference in understanding what you can and can't do with a car. And how to control the thing. But the students still have to pay attention, and have some respect for the physics of horsepower and automotive handling dynamics.
The first school I did had Day 1 in a parking lot, all wetted down, to teach braking, and slide control on a skid pad and a figure eight. There was a guy in a C6 Corvette who was clearly not "getting" it, as my trusty 9K was lapping the skid pad and figure-8 just as fast, and not spinning out.
On Day 2, the Corvette driver is on the track. He's in my run group, about 5 cars ahead of me in run order. After a few laps, during which he decided he was a hero driver, he turns off the electronic nannies. He comes onto the front straight and stands on the loud pedal. And promptly bounces the 'Vette on the outside wall and the pit wall. No injuries, but lots of damage, and a ride home in a flat bed.
