I still love 9000s, and last year bought a rust-free, lower mileage California car to replace my previous one that was experiencing some of what yours sounds like it's doing. I'm curious about the quotes that you got for the repair, as while repairing and repainting each rear quarter panel may cost about $500, does this include the rear inner wheel wells and shock mounts? These are known rust areas on the 9000 and can also be somewhat pricey to repair, depending on how far the rust has gone. I'll also add that the repair that I had done on my old car was not up to the quality of the original finish, i.e. some orange peel in the paint and it started bubbling slightly after two years. Sold my very well running car with a long service history and many expensive recent repairs (i.e. fuel pump, water pump, exhaust) for not much money, but still thrilled with the replacement.
It might be hard to find a replacement 9000 in LA, as the newest one is now 17 years old and will probably not be up to the state of repair of your current car. Also, how much stuff are you planning on moving - will it fit in any car?
