I did a similar stopover a number of years ago and it was a great experience, so I’d personally recommend it. The big diference is that it was one of the most expensive places I’d ever been, whereas now I understand it’s much more reasonable after the currency crash. It’s a very approachable county and you can rent a car and drive very easily, and the city is quite walkable and enjoyable. The Blue Lagoon is very cool and definitely worth it. In terms of car stuff, they have truck and vans on absolutely giant tires that would put even the most dedicated deep south mud boger to shame and you can take tours in the vans. You probably won’t have enough time to do the glacial ice trekking and stuff like that, but you’ll definitely have a cool experience. Of course Amsterdam is a great city too where you can have all kind of experiences, but I tend to agree that you’ll be more likely to have another chance to go there another time.
