OTC 4525 Posted by ELaw [Email] (#699) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ELaw) on Tue, 21 Apr 2015 05:55:32 In Reply to: Re: Hose Clamp Cable Pliers Recommendations?, Joe [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 20 Apr 2015 17:50:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I bought an OTC 4525 a couple of months ago to work on the wife's Audi with all them thar newfangled hose clamps. ;^)
In general I like it, but the "ratchet" mechanism that holds the hose clamp in tension has rather coarse teeth. I've found many times if I squeeze the handles as far as possible then reduce pressure and let the ratchet hold the clamp open, it doesn't hold it open far enough. That can be a problem when you want both hands free to work the clamp down the hose, as you're stuck using one hand to squeeze the tool. So far it's never been a showstopper though - it just slows things down a bit.
