Wouldn't you notice if you got metal in your eye? Maybe not if a tiny fragment... but shouldn't we always use safety glasses when performing grinding operations (I know there are low risk situations where people lapse, but imho grinding metal shouldn't be one of them).
I usually try to wear hearing protection for most of these tasks also, as I enjoy music and would rather not lose the opportunity to continue that!
