Ummm...Maybe you should leave this for your son. No offense.
The failed machine from the bay is only good for the WINDOWS KEY, usually on a sticker. A series of numbers.
The ISO has to be loaded properly on a USB drive. Microsoft has a tool for that on their website but others have it as well.
DO NOT BUY Windows XP repair disks specific to a computer manufacturer, and/or Service Pack upgrades. New XP diskettes may or may not exist. You're buying used and seller usually specifies the Windows key is good, otherwise ask them. The ISO will be new and FREE.
