Radio Shack really never carried any good stuff, at least around here.
Weller makes good soldering equipment, so if you just need a basic iron, what JerseySaab recommends would be a good choice. Hopefully it has a stand. A stand and sponge are useful, but I also like to have variable temperature control... not so much for soldering something trivial on the car, but if you do any other soldering of electronics, being able to adjust set points for different solders, components, applications, is really handy. These do cost more however, especially from Weller. Most electronics parts suppliers also carry quality soldering stations. Ebay and amazon may have lower prices on the same gear. good luck!
