I think Dean is probably right - the lube is useful for assembling to inventory when a rebuilt caliper might stick. Assuming it's compatible, the only thing using it during a rebuild right before use would offer is easier assembly. It can't improve anything once the caliper is put to work - the piston seal would easily and quickly wipe it away, and anything inside the bore will get washed away by brake fluid. In terms of easing assembly, it could be an advantage on many older caliper designed, but modern calipers are very simple - there is no overwhelming reason to use anything other than brake fluid. It works fine. Use quality rubber parts, be gentle and keep things clean, and you won't have a problem for a long, long time. Usually I see calipers fail due to lack of external lubricant on sliding, etc. parts - hydraulic failures are relatively uncommon.
