Both cars are current Nissan models. The 2015 Tsuru is really just a 1990s Sentra, though.
I won't comment on the role of government regulations vs. trusting corporations to do the right thing, not going to get political here of course. That's another discussion for somewhere else.
What I will say is that Nissan is selling a very unsafe car when it has safer cars in its stable, just because a) it can and b) $$$$$$$$ I'd like to think SAAB wouldn't do this. Companies like SAAB/Volvo designed safe cars before they were mandated to, and before it was a popular selling point. I guess they didn't have enough cars in their lineup to do this anyway, even if they had wanted to. Ahh, just reminiscing about SAAB... I know they weren't perfect. The NG900 wasn't a crash test superstar...but I do believe they tried their best with what they had, and the car actually did very well in real world data.
