But I think you may have hit the nail on the head with your comment - a more expensive car is probably in better shape, probably has fewer potential buyers, more serious buyers etc so the seller can work more with that. The seller of a $1000 car just simply wants to get rid of it fast. The low price attracts all kinds of bozos who know nothing about SAABs, have no idea what to do with it, and waste the sellers time. So the obvious filter from a seller's perspective is "bring cash, buy car"...
I think the other thing that makes it more difficult these days is there are numerous spammers out there, so sellers are suspicious of anything complicated, or done remotely. That might be different for a rare or antique car, where one expects little local interest... but for a 10 year old run-of-the-mill model at a low price... quick local sale is the objective.
If someone puts it on ebay, that's one thing (ebay targets a wide geographical market). TSN also. If they put it on a local list like CL or kijiji, they probably mean for it to sell locally. They might accommodate a distance request, but I would not expect it!
