Some similarities there in shape also. The 99 sedan has that neat little "flip" to the back windshield and trunk and that is almost there in the bmw (and older 1 series sedan).

Neil, I also disagree re modern saabs, as many of them have very little to do with the 99 anymore (eg NG9-5, even ng 9-3), never mind that they aren't making saabs anymore, so one could argue that there are no more modern saabs... we'll soon need to decide if we buy another "newish" saab, or another brand, as "newish" becomes increasingly "oldish"... depends a bit on what we can find used...
