Show opened at 9am and by 10:30 there are twice as many Ferraris as Saabs. I counted two Ferraris, a 355 and a 360.
In future years we need to slam this show with Saabs!
Now for the good. My Viggen 'vert was parked next to a 1985 BMW 635Csi manual. The owner of this gorgeous classic BMW has a 2011 9-5 AWD as his winter car - strictly due to the AWD feature. His son works at Fox Auto, the former Saab Dealer in Grand Rapids MI, and this fellow is searching for a 99 Turbo.
A young guy and his Samoyed sauntered up to us saying how much he loves Saabs. He previously owned a 2006 9-3SC Aero and a 2011 9-3SC Turbo X. Unfortunately his 2011 was destroyed last summer in the floods that ravaged Kalamazoo MI. He tried in vain to buy the car back from his Insurance Company but they refused. Let's all shed a tear for the drowned and rare Saab. This fellow said that last year's show had at least 4 Saabs.
The show is held on a small municipal Airport in Holland MI, roughly a mile from the Lake Michigan Beach. The show operates like a smaller-scale one-day Carlisle without the vehicle separation by brand. They had a Dynamometer available today, food trucks, cosmetic and performance vendors, etc., although everything today was targeted heavily towards the Volkswagen brand. Volkswagen of America was the primary sponsor for 2018.
Cars are parked as they arrive. Using a local parking lot as a gathering point for Saabs prior to entry would result in the Saabs being clustered together.
