I agree. I was much happier dealing with CarMax (twice) and a regular used car sales guy (once, through AutoTrader) for the last 3 car purchases. I'm sure I paid more, but to me it was worth it. CarMax was nice because both times I was trading in something that wasn't worth much, so the simplicity of driving there in the old car, signing my name 25 times, and driving home an hour later with the new one was again worth it. But it probably doesn't work that well for the low-end of the market or for something difficult to find -- all three purchases were late model high volume models.
