We bought our first home in '79, it came with an old refrigerator Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 30 Nov 2018 17:27:13 In Reply to: Re: Garage door opener rant and open to suggestions, cheaptech [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 30 Nov 2018 06:57:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
That same refrigerator is now in the basement of our current home, still running, and it has outlived one and maybe two others bought since we moved here.
That old refrigerator is an AMC brand, which I finally traced down to be the in-house private brand of refrigerators sold by the JL Hudson Department Stores in the early 1960's. The defrost timer on it went bad two years ago, I removed the old one and used the numbers on the timer to locate a NOS replacement. Turns out the refrigerator is actually a Gibson but private labeled as an AMC for Hudson's.
My sister purchased our parent's home following their deaths 20 years ago. In her basement, still operating, is the Gibson refrigerator my parents bought when they moved into the home in 1951!
